Allahabad High Court
The High Court of Judicature for the North-Western Provinces was established at Agra under Letters Patent on March 17, 1866. The seat of the High Court was shifted from Agra to Allahabad in 1869, and its designation was altered to ‘the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad’ by a supplementary Letters Patent issued on March 11, 1919. The Chief Court of Oudh was amalgamated with the Allahabad High Court by the U.P. High Court Amalgamation Order, 1948. Sir Walter Morgan, Barrister-at-Law, was the first Chief Justice of the High Court of North-Western Provinces. The Allahabad High Court is located in Prayagraj. The Court also has a permanent circuit bench at Lucknow.
The sanctioned strength of Judges of the Allahabad High Court is 119 permanent and 41 additional Judges.
