The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified the appointment of two advocates, Ajay Digpaul and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar, as judges of the Delhi High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the appointment of the three advocates in a resolution dated August 21, 2024. While two of the candidates have received clearance from the Centre today, the appointment of advocate Shwetasree Majumder, who was also recommended in the same resolution, is still pending.

The notification dated January 06, 2025 read, “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S/Shri (i) Ajay Digpaul and (ii) Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar to be Judges of the Delhi High Court, in that order of seniority, with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.”

In another notification the ministry has notified the appointment of judicial officer Ashish Naithani as a judge of the Uttarakhand High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Naithani's appointment in December 2024. The decision was made during a Collegium meeting on December 22, led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna.

The notification dated January 06, 2025 read, “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Ashish Naithani to be a Judge of the High Court of Uttarakhand with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”
