Centre Notifies Appointment Of New Chief Justice For Orissa High Court

The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified the appointment of Justice Harish Tandon as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Justice Tandon’s appointment on March 6, following the retirement of the previous Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, on January 19.
Justice Tandon, who has been serving as a judge in the Calcutta High Court since his appointment on April 13, 2010, is currently ranked seventh in the All-India Seniority list of High Court judges. He is also a senior puisne judge in the Calcutta High Court.
Before his elevation to the bench, Justice Tandon was a practicing advocate at the Calcutta High Court, primarily focusing on civil matters.
The notification published on the Ministry’s website dated March 21, 2025 read, “In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Harish Tandon, Judge of the Calcutta High Court, to be Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”
