The Supreme Court Collegium resolved to recommend the appointment of Justice Harish Tandon from the Calcutta High Court as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.

This recommendation comes in the wake of the retirement of Chief Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh on January 19. Currently, Justice Arindam Sinha is serving as the acting Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.

Justice Tandon has had a distinguished career in the judiciary since his appointment as a judge of the Calcutta High Court on April 13, 2010. He has been serving there ever since. He holds the 7th position in the All-India Seniority List of High Court Judges, making him one of the senior most judges in the judicial system. His experience and expertise are well-recognized, and he serves as a senior puisne judge in his home High Court.

Before his elevation to the bench, Justice Tandon had a strong background in practicing civil law at the Calcutta High Court. Over his judicial career, he has gained a wealth of experience in dispensing justice across a broad range of matters.

The resolution dated March 06, 2025 read, “Having regard to all relevant factors, the Collegium is of the considered view that Mr. Justice Harish Tandon is fit and suitable in all respects for being appointed as Chief Justice of the High Court of Orissa. The Collegium has, therefore, resolved to recommend that Mr. Justice Harish Tandon be appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Orissa.”

In a different resolution dated March 05, 2025 the Supreme Court Collegium has approved the proposal to elevate three additional judges of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to permanent judges.

The judges recommended for this permanent appointment are:

  1. Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal,
  2. Justice Rajesh Sekhri, and
  3. Justice Mohammad Yousuf Wani.
