Indore Water Contamination: Madhya Pradesh High Court Oreders Supply Of Clean And Pure Drinking Water, Seeks Status Report
The Madhya Pradesh High Court was considering a Writ Petition challenging the impugned action of the Respondents in failing to provide clean and pure drinking water.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court, in the backdrop of fatalities resulting from contaminated water, has directed the Municipal Corporation to supply clean and pure drinking water to the residents of Bhagirathpura locality of Indore City.
The Court was considering a Writ Petition challenging the impugned action of the Respondents in failing to provide clean and pure drinking water.
The Division Bench of Justice Rajesh Kumar and Justice BP Sharma held, "By way of interim measure, the Municipal Corporation of Indore is directed to ensure supply of clean and pure drinking water to the residents of the affected areas and take all possible steps to supply clean water on regular basis. So far as treatment of the affected persons who are admitted in various hospitals is concerned, the State will take care of them and they would be given best treatment."
The Petitioner was represented by Advocate Ritesh Inani, while the Respondent was represented by Additional Advocate General Rahul Sethi.
It was argued that due to supply of contaminated drinking water, a large number of people are being infected and many people have died on account of said reason. It was further submitted that the Corporation as well as the State Government may be directed to supply clean water on a regular basis and to provide best treatment to the affected persons immediately for saving their lives.
Counsel for the Municipal Corporation had submitted that 20 water tankers were supplied in the affected area on a regular basis and that further they will ensure that there is no shortage of clean water in the affected area of Bhagirathpura.
On the other hand, Counsel for the State submitted that regarding the treatment of affected persons, directions have already been given to the concerned hospitals and doctors and all patients will receive proper treatment and expenses will be borne by the Respondents/ Government. He further submitted that all affected persons will continue to receive better treatment in future as well.
The matter was listed for the next hearing on January 02, 2026.
