Madhya Pradesh High Court
By Letters Patent issued in January 1936 under the Government of India Act, 1915, the Nagpur High Court was established for Central Provinces and Berar. As per Section 49 of the States Re-organization Act, from November 1, 1956, the High Court exercising jurisdiction in relation to the State of Madhya Pradesh, i.e. the Nagpur High Court, was deemed to be the High Court for the State of Madhya Pradesh. The temporary Benches of the High Court at Indore and Gwalior were made permanent in 1968. The construction of the building of the Principal Bench at Jabalpur by Raja Gokul Das was completed in 1889. The architecture of the building is mixed baroque and oriental. He donated the building to the government.
The sanctioned strength of Judges of the Madhya Pradesh High Court is 40 permanent and 13 additional Judges.
