The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has halted the demolition drive it was carrying out in the Jahangirpuri area after the Supreme Court directed its Secretary-General to convey the order to stop demolition to the NDMC Mayor and the Delhi Police Commissioner immediately.

The matter was mentioned by Senior Advocate Dushyant Dave once again since the NDMC continued the demolition driving stating that it did not receive a copy of the interim order passed by the Court.

Dave told the Court that once the interim order was reported in the media, the drive should have been halted.

Earlier in the morning, the Bench of Cheif Justice N V Ramana had ordered status quo with respect to the demolition drive during mentioning. Simultaneously, during the mentioning that was done before the Delhi High Court, its Division Bench had refused to pass any interim order and had instead agreed to plea today itself.

The Special Commissioner of Police, Law & Order told the media at around 12.45 pm that the anti-encroachment drive has been stopped in the Jahangirpuri area. By then, a substantial demolition drive had been carried out in the Jahangiripuri area, including the demolition of a portion of a Mosque, which was allegedly constructed illegally after encroachment.
