Kerala High Court
The High Court of Kerala with its seat in Ernakulam was established in November 1956, and was preceded by the High Court of Travancore-Cochin established in July, 1949. Before that, the State of Travancore had a High Court at Thiruvananthapuram, the State of Cochin had its High Court at Eranakulam and Malabar District was under the jurisdiction of Madras High Court, which areas were merged to form the State of Kerala. The High Court has been functioning from the present building since 2006, prior to which, it functioned from the nearby Ram Mohan Palace. Kerala High Court’s territorial jurisdiction extends to the State of Kerala and the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
The sanctioned strength of Judges of the Kerala High Court is 35 permanent and 12 additional judges.
