A Court in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra on Wednesday granted bail to BJP MLA Nitesh Rane in an alleged attempt to murder case.

Nitesh Rane, the son of Union Minister Narayan Rane, had surrendered before the Court on February 2.

Today the District and Additional Sessions Judge (Sindhudurg) R B Rote allowed his bail plea.

The case pertains to the alleged attack on Shiv Sena activist Santosh Parab during the campaigning for the Sindhudurg District Co-operative Bank elections last year.

The MLA had on multiple occasions claimed that he was being targeted by Maharashtra's ruling party (Shiv Sena, which heads the MVA government) as it felt insulted and hurt by an alleged incident of mocking outside the state legislature complex last month.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had refused anticipatory bail to BJP MLA Nitesh Rane and directed him to surrender before the Trial Court and apply for regular bail. However, he was granted 10 days protection from arrest by the Court.

"I am being trapped because I am a two-time MLA". Rohatgi had submitted before the Supreme Court adding that, "The conspiracy is to kill the man with a paper cutter at 11 am in public and what is charged against me is Attempt to Murder!"

A Court in the Sindhudurg had sent Nitesh Rane to judicial custody after refusing police custody. He was, however, taken to a hospital instead of jail for treatment after he complained of chest pain.

His lawyer Sangram Desai then moved a plea seeking bail, which has now been allowed.
