The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition seeking rescheduling of the NEET-UG 2021 and held that the exam would be held on the scheduled date i.e., September 12.

It was contended in the plea that class 12 biology students would have an exam on September 6 and physics on September 9, two major science subjects in the same week of NEET. It sought the quashing of the July 13 public order scheduling the NEET UG 2021 exam for September 12.

The petitioner argued that the public notice was 'manifestly arbitrary' and in violation of Article 14 of the Constitution.

The Court however held that merely for the convenience of some students appearing in multiple exams, NEET cannot be postponed.

The Bench comprising of Justices AM Khanwilkar, Hrishikesh Roy and CT Ravikumar opined that the students who appear in multiple exams will have to make the choice.

The Court was also of the view that it should not interfere too much in education matters since lakhs of students would be affected by its orders.

The Court observed while dismissing the petition that it needs to lay down the extent of judicial intervention in academic matters.
