The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of four judicial officers as the Judges of the Madras High Court. The Supreme Court has also reiterated its earlier recommendation for the appointment of a Senior Advocate as the Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The resolutions of March 21 were uploaded on the website yesterday evening.

In its resolution recommending appointment to Madras High Court, the Collegium has reiterated the earlier recommendation and reiteration to elevate Advocate R. John Sathyan as a Judge of the Madras High Court.

While reiterating the name for appointment to the Punjab & Haryana High Court, the Collegium did not disclose the issues that were flagged by the Department of Justice while referring back the recommendation.

The Ministry of Law and Justice today notified the appointment of one Judicial Officer P. Vadamalai as an Additional Judge of the Madras High Court. The Ministry has further notified the transfer of Justice Battu Devanand (Judge, Andhra Pradesh High Court) and Justice Devaraju Nagarjun (Judge, Telangana High Court) as the Judges of the Madras High Court.

The names recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium to be appointed as Judges are as follows:

Madras High Court

• Judicial Officer R Sakthivel

• Judicial Officer P Dhanabal

• Judicial Officer Chinnasamy Kumparappan

• Judicial Officer K Rajasekar

Punjab and Haryana High Court

• Advocate Harpreet Singh Brar

While recommending the name of Advocate Harpreet Singh Brar, the Supreme Court Collegium stated that he has a wide-ranging experience of practice before the High Court and is fit and suitable for the appointment as a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
