The latest Collegium decision for the appointment of Chief Justices of three High Courts, taken in a meeting held on Tuesday was reported by mainstream media at around 5.45 pm yesterday, even though the statement about the decision was published on the website of the Supreme Court only late in the evening.

The recommendations for the appointment of new Chief Justices were shared on Twitter by a mainstream media outlet, much before they were officially announced by publishing the statement.

This is not for the first time that Supreme Court Collegium's recommendations are leaked to the media before they are officially announced by publishing a statement on the Court's website.

"When did you get the notification, I have no idea about it", the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court had said, when lawyers protested before him against a recommendation of transfer of a Judge of that Court by the Supreme Court Collegium that had been reported in media but not officially announced.

In its latest recommendations, the Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of 5 Judges of the High Courts, as Judges in the Supreme Court. The Collegium has also recommended the elevation of 3 Judges as Chief Justices of different High Courts.

Justice Pankaj Mithal, Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court, appointed as Judge in the Supreme Court

Justice Sanjay Karol, Chief Justice of Patna High Court, appointed as Judge in the Supreme Court

Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar, Chief Justice of Manipur High Court, appointed as Judge in the Supreme Court

Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah, Judge of Patna High Court, appointed as Judge in the Supreme Court

Justice Manoj Misra, Judge of Allahabad High Court, appointed as Judge in the Supreme Court

Appointment as Chief Justice of High Courts

Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra, presently in the Uttarakhand High Court, is appointed as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court

Justice N. Kotiswar Singh presently in the Gauhati High Court, is appointed as Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh

Justice K. Vinod Chandran presently in the Kerala High Court, is appointed as Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court
