Lawyers for Justice, an NGO that works for the protection of the rights of people especially women, the poor, and people from the downtrodden sections, has constituted a fact-finding committee over alleged human rights violations in the State of West Bengal.

The Organization has said that it has received several complaints from victims of atrocities in West Bengal and has resolved to visit the state to ascertain the facts leading to such violence.

It has further stated that the Organization has received several written complaints alleging acts of rape, murder, loot, arson etc. stated to be done by the ruling party.

"The Lawyers for Justice continued to receive several written complaints alleging acts of rape, murder, loot, arson etc. stated to be done by the ruling party with the help of government machineries", the NGO said.

"It appears that there is no safety for the common man and in particular women in the State of West Bengal and moreover human rights violation has become a matter of routine", the NGO said.

The Organization has constituted a fact-finding committee for visiting the State to ascertain the cause of victims and ascertain the cause of atrocities.

As per the Organization, the fact-finding committee will include Justice- Justice (retd.) L. Narsimha Reddy, former IPS officer Rajpal Singh, Women's Rights Lawyer Charu Wali Khanna, Advocate Om Prakash Vyas, Journalist Sanjeev Nayak and Advocate Rosy Taba.

"Committee members proposed to make the first visit in the State in the first week of January 2023. It will be for the first time that the State of West Bengal is being visited by an Independent, high level civil society committee with the sole objective to meet and interact with the victims of different offences for their protection and raise the voice of the oppressed in entire India", Lawyers for Justice has informed through a press release.
