The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified the redesignation of the post of 'Assistant Solicitor General of India' as 'Deputy Solicitor General of India'.

As per the circular issued by the Law Ministry, the re-designation of 'Assistant Solicitor General of lndia' as "Deputy Solicitor General of lndia", has been done to remove confusion and doubt between the designation- Additional Solicitor General of lndia and Assistant Solicitor General of lndia, as both of them use the same abbreviation 'ASG'.

"The undersigned is directed to refer to this Department's OM No. 26('l)12A02-Judl. dated 07.02.2005 re-designating, inter-alia, the Senior Central Government Standing Counsel of High Courts as 'Assistant Solicitor General of India' and to convey that the competent authority has decided to re-designate henceforth 'Assistant Solicitor General of lndia' as "Deputy Solicitor General of lndia", to remove confusion and doubt between Additional Solicitor General of lndia and Assistant Solicitor General of lndia, as both of them use same abbreviation 'ASG.", the circular issued by Law Ministry read.

The Deputy Solicitor General of India will be abbreviated as DSGI. The notification says that the new abbreviation should be strictly adhered to.

"The abbreviation for the new designation "Deputy Solicitor General of lndia" would be "DSGI" and this should strictly be adhered to.", the circular dated September 13, 2022 read.
