Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju bade farewell to outgoing Attorney General K K Venugopal on Friday.

Senior Advocate R Venkataramani will assumed the office of Attorney General of India today.

"Emotional farewell to the outgoing Attorney-General for India & warm welcome to new Attorney-General. Thanks to legendary advocate Shri K.K. Venugopal for rendering most valuable service to the nation. My best wishes to Sh R. Venkatramani, the new Attorney-General for India," Rijiju tweeted on Friday night.

He thanked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, Additional Solicitor Generals and Senior Officers of the Ministry of Law and Justice for attending the gathering.

"The Attorney General for India is the highest Law of India and Shri K.K. Venugopal has discharged his duties with best profesional manner. At 91 years, he is still most relevant in his profession! And I'm delighted that another great lawyer Shri R. Venkatramani will succeed him", the Minister said in a tweet today morning.

Born on April 13, 1950 in Puducherry, Venkataramani, 72, enrolled in the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu in July, 1977 and moved to the Supreme Court in 1979. He was designated as Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court in 1997. He had also been a member of the Law Commission in 2010.

Venkataramani had thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Law Minister Kiren Rijiju in a video message tweeted from the Twitter handle of the Union Law Minister's office.
