The Karnataka State Bar Council has prohibited Advocates from wearing Jeans, Corduroy Pants, Sports Shoes, and similar dresses to Court. The State Bar Council has said that Advocates must follow the Dress Code prescribed by the Bar Council of India.

The notice issued by the Karnataka State Bar Council to the President of the Advocates Association read thus "The Bar Council of India has prescribed dress code to Advocates both male and female Advocates. In view of Bar Council of India directions, the Advocates are prohibited from wearing Jeans, Corduroy Pants, Sports Shoes and similar dresses to Court and it is hereby mandated that the Advocates to follow the Dress Code prescribed. Any violation of the same will be viewed seriously by Karnataka State Bar Council."

This comes after the Karnataka State Bar Council observed that many young Advocates are wearing Jeans, Corduroy Pants, Sports Shoes and similar dresses to the Court.

The notice issued by the Chairman of the Karnataka State Bar Council requested all the Presidents of the Advocates Association to bring to the notice of the Advocates to maintain the dignity and decorum of the Court.

"Once again I request all the Presidents to bring to the notice of the Advocates to maintain the dignity and decorum of the Court as Advocate is a noble profession.", the notice issued on October 13, 2022 read.
