The Hyderabad Police has registered a case against a woman and her family members for allegedly kicking diyas lit by their neighbour on Diwali.

The complainant alleged that on October 24, 2022, she and her family members were celebrating Diwali when her neighbor objected to placing rangoli and diyas in the common space. It was alleged that they abused them and kicked the diyas with their legs.

According to the Chikkadapally Circle inspector, a case has been registered under Sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (insulting modesty of a woman), 355 (Assault or criminal force), 295 (injuring or defiling a place of worship with intent to insult the religion), 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings) read with Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

The incident took place in a building under the Chikkadapally Police Station. The Complainant has requested police to take the necessary action as per law.

Several members of Hindu organizations protested against the said incident and demanded action since the accused in the FIR reportedly belongs to a different religious community. Police personnel was deployed at the building to maintain peace.

As per the complainant G.K. Mahalakshmi, her neighbour Shalini Deva Krupa along with her husband and two sons came out of their flat and started abusing them by using un-parliamentary language and also threatened them with dire consequences and kicked the lamps with their legs and intended to outrage their religious feelings.
