As per the FIR, Advocate Vijay Gopal was assaulted by the President of the Metropolitan Criminal Court Bar Association (MCCBA), Hyderabad, when he tried entering the Court premises.

An FIR has been registered against the General Secretary of the Metropolitan Criminal Court Bar Association (MCCBA), Hyderabad, following allegations by Advocate Vijay Gopal that he was physically assaulted at the Nampally Criminal Court Complex on June 16, 2025, after he declined to participate in a court boycott called by the association.
According to the FIR, the incident took place between 10:55 AM and 11:15 AM, when Vijay Gopal attempted to enter the court premises. He was stopped by the General Secretary and others who were enforcing a boycott announced for that day.
The FIR states, “He respectfully told them that he is not interested in joining the protest and hearing this the General Secretary, as claimed to be, started shouting at him and held him by collar and pushed him down to the stairs and he was gravely hurt on his left temple of the forehead and threatened.”
He further alleged that the police personnel present did not prevent the incident and instead wrongfully detained him.
The FIR was registered on June 16 at the Nampally Police Station in Hyderabad as FIR No. 159/2025 under Sections 115(2), 126(2), 351(2), and 352 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The FIR records charges relating to assault, wrongful restraint, and obstruction of an advocate from entering court premises to practice law.
In a statement to Verdictum, Vijay Gopal said, “Bar Associations in India better behave themselves, otherwise, they will be held accountable by the fellow advocates themselves.”
The boycott enforced on June 16 was under a resolution passed by the Executive Committee of MCCBA, which stated, “The Executive Committee of MCCBA in their meeting held on 14/06/2025 unanimously resolved to condemn the kidnap and brutal attack of Advocate Sri P. Narayana (Ex-Treasurer) on 07-06-2025 and also condemning the brutal attack on Sailesh Saxena, Advocate. In order to express our solidarity, we decided to abstain from court work on 16-06-2025.”
The resolution also requested that Presiding Officers not pass the adverse orders on June 16, 2025, in the absence of advocates.
Gopal has said that he expects video evidence to come out shortly and has filed an RTI seeking CCTV footage of the incident.
