An FIR has been registered against Congress leader in Kalburgi, Karnataka for saying that those opposing hijab will be cut to pieces.

In the video that had gone viral, Congress leader Mukarram Khan was seen saying that those opposing students wearing hijab will be 'cut into pieces.' As per ANI, the Karnataka Police has registered an FIR under Sections 153 (A), 298 and 295 of the Indian Penal Code.

"Born and brought up here, living and ending life here in India. Those opposing students wearing hijab will be 'cut into pieces.' One day, we will die, don't hurt our caste (religion), all castes are equal. No caste suffers from injustice. You can wear anything, who will be stopping you? We will not tolerate this works," he had said.

Earlier, Karnataka Congress MLA Zameer Ahmed said that the hijab is meant to hide the beauty of girls when they grow up. He had argued that the rate of rapes in India is high because women don't use hijab.

He had also said that only those women who are concerned about their own wellbeing would wear hijab.

The national spokesperson of the political party All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and Ex-MLA, Waris Pathan had said during a television debate that women need hijab just like mobile phones need cover and screen guard for its protection. "Why do you keep mobile in cover? To protect it. Why do put a screen guard on mobile? So that it does not spoil. Just like that our sisters wear hijab to protect their face", he had said during an Aaj Tak news debate.
