The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified the appointment of Justice Alok Aradhe, senior-most Judge of the Karnataka High Court, as the Acting Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court with effect from 3rd July, 2022.

"In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint, Shri Justice Alok Aradhe, senior-most Judge of the Karnataka High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court, with effect from 03.07.2022 consequent upon the retirement of Shri Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, Chief Justice, Karnataka High Court", the notification said.

Current Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi will retire on July 2. He was elevated as a Judge of Allahabad High Court on Apr 13, 2009 and took oath as the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court on October 11, 2021.

Justice Alok Aradhe was appointed as a Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on December 29, 2009 and was transferred to High Court of Jammu and Kashmir on September 16, 2016. He was nominated as Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir State Judicial Academy on June 7, 2017. He was appointed as Acting Chief Justice of High court of Jammu & Kashmir on May 11, 2018. He was transferered to Karnataka High Court on November, 17, 2018.
