The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified the appointment of Justice Ashish Jitendra Desai as the Acting Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court.

The Notification released by the Law Ministry read thus-

"In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint, Shri Justice Ashish Jitendra Desai, senior most puisne Judge of Gujarat High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from 26.02.2023 consequent upon the retirement of Miss Justice Sonia Giridhar Gokani, Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court."

Justice Ashish Jitendra Desai started practice at the City Civil & Sessions Court, Ahmedabad and since 1991 at the Gujarat High Court. He was appointed as Assistant Government Pleader in 1994 and as Additional Public Prosecutor in 1995 and continued to work till elevation.

Justice Desai was elevated as an Additional Judge of Gujarat High Court in 2011 and confirmed as permanent Judge in 2013.
