The Bar Council of Delhi has issued a circular stating that those who wish to apply for enrolment with the Bar Council of Delhi must produce an Aadhaar Card and Voter ID with a Delhi or NCR address.

The Circular of April 13 has been issued based on the decision taken in the meeting of the Bar Council on April 6.

".. all those Law Graduates, who wish to apply for enrolment with the Bar Council of Delhi, are hereby informed that along with their respective Enrolment Application and other documents, they shall also be required to attach copy of Aadhaar Card and Voter ID Card of Delhi/NCR (National Capital Region) and the Aadhaar Card and Voter ID Card must bear the address of Delhi or NCR", the circular says.

Sanjay Rathi, the Secretary of the Bar Council of Delhi, has signed the circular. The Circular also says that enrolment will not be done without such documents.

The Circular says, "Henceforth no enrolment shall be done without the copy of Aadhaar Card and Voter ID Card bearing the address of Delhi/NCR".

The Circular, therefore, mandates that every law graduate wanting to enrol with it must possess an Aadhaar Card and that he or she must be a resident of Delhi.

Earlier, the Bar Council of Delhi had announced its decision to issue fresh identity cards to all its members. “The permanent Identity Card shall be valid for 10 years and provisional identity card shall be valid for two years,” its notice said. This was also based on the decision taken in the meeting on April 6.

The notice said that the Identity Cards will be issued free of cost to those who apply within one month i.e. from May 1 to May 31.
