Supreme Court bench comprising of Justice L. Nageswara Rao, Justice B. R. Gavai, and Justice A. S. Bopanna today granted conditional bail to Indrani Mukherjea in the matter of the Sheena Bora Murder Case. Indrani Mukherjea had approached the top court challenging the order of the Bombay High Court where her bail plea was dismissed.

The bench heard the submissions given by Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi appearing for Indrani Mukherjea. He submitted that she is in custody for the past six and a half years and co-accused Peter Mukherjea has been out on bail since 6th February 2020. It was also submitted by Rohatgi that the trial will take time as 237 witnesses are still left to be examined including Rahul Mukherjea.
Additional Solicitor General S. V. Raju
appearing for CBI opposed the plea stating that there is an apprehension that she might influence the witnesses if she is granted bail. It was also submitted by the ASG that the prosecution is giving up 50 percent of the witnesses
The court granted bail to Indrani Mukherjea holding that "Indrani Mukherjea has been in custody for 6.5 years. We are not making any comment on the merits of the case. Even if 50 percent of witnesses are giving up by the prosecution the trial would still take time."
Indrani Mukherjea was arrested in 2015 and has been charged with Criminal Conspiracy, Murder, Kidnapping, and Destruction of Evidence under the Indian Penal Code for the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora with the help of her former husband Sanjeev Khanna, present husband Peter Mukherjea and driver Shyamvar Rai.
