The Madras High Court has observed that in Tamil Nadu there won't be any objection to erecting the statues of Thanthai Periyar or Dr. BR Ambedkar.

The Bench of Justice Sathi Kumar Sukumara Kurup noted thus "As far as Tamil Nadu is concerned, there cannot be any objection from anyone for erecting the statues of Thanthai Periyar or Dr.Ambedkar. The people individually have respects for these leaders."

In this case, Petitioner-Kaladi had approached the Court seeking directions to State Authorities to consider the Petitioner's representation in the light of the recommendation made by the Tahsildar for installing statues of Dr.BR Ambedkar and reformer Thanthai Periyar at the Petitioner's property that is a patta land.

Advocate R.Karunanidhi, appeared for the Petitioner, Additional Government Pleader K.Christy Theboral, appeared for Tahsildar, Thoothukudi District and Additional Public Prosecutor B.Nambu Selvan, appeared for Police Department, Thoothukudi District.

The Additional Government Pleader submitted that the Tahsildar concerned had already filed a report to the District Collector. She further submitted that the Petitioner herein is the owner of the land and all the revenue records are in his name and that there cannot be any objection to put up statues of Thanthai Periyar and Dr.Ambedkar in his patta land. Further, there is no rival claim or objection from anyone, as per the Tahsildar's report.

The Court allowed the Petition since there was no objection from anyone.

Accordingly, the Court directed thus "The District Collector may pass appropriate orders based on the representation of the Petitioner on merits and in accordance with law within a period of two weeks from the date of this order."
