The Kerala High Court has permitted the organiser of the Mridanga Vision event to surrender before the Investigation Officer tomorrow while disposing of his interim-bail application in relation to the FIR registered for the accident that led to MLA Uma Thomas being seriously injured.

The Court was considering a Bail Application under Section-482 of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 in a case registered against the Petitioner alleging offence punishable under Sections 125, 125(b) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita r/w Section 118(e) of the Kerala Police Act.

The single-bench of Justice Krishna Kumar observed, "...the bail application is disposed of by permitting the petitioner to surrender before the Investigating Officer at 2:00 PM on 02.01.2025, failing which the Investigating Officer is entitled to arrest the petitioner as per law"

The Applicant was represented by Advocate M.R. Dhanil while the Respondent was represented by Public Prosecutor Sreeja V.

Counsel for the Petitioner submitted that though the case was initially registered with bailable offences, the police later incorporated Section 110 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, a non-bailable offence, and thus the petitioner may be released on interim bail, as he apprehends arrest.

The same was opposed by the Public Prosecutor on grounds that the alleged criminal acts were very grave and the matter involved a larger public interest.

The Court was also not inclined to issue the interim directions, however, allowed the request for surrender made by the Counsel for the Petitioner.

The Application was accordingly disposed of.
