The Kerala High Court allowed a murder convict to pursue LLB while serving his life sentence. The petitioner filed an application seeking bail to complete the admission process and pursue the LLB course.

A Division Bench of Justice A.K. Jayasankaran Nambiar and Justice Kauser Edappagath decided that the petitioner's admission to the 3-year LLB course at KMCT Law College will be conducted online. The Jail Superintendent of the Open Prison and Correctional Home, Cheemeni, Kannur, was directed to coordinate with the college to facilitate the necessary arrangements for video conferencing. The petitioner's wife was asked to physically attend KMCT Law College with all required documents and make the necessary fee payments on the day of admission. The petitioner was allowed to participate through video conferencing to complete the admission formalities.

Advocate Nandagopal S. Kurup appeared for the Appellant and Advocate E.C.Bineesh appeared for the Respondent.

The petitioner/appellant had been convicted and sentenced for various offenses under the Indian Penal Code, including life imprisonment. The petitioner, a graduate in BA Economics, wished to pursue further education and had secured admission to an LLB course at KMCT Law College, Kuttipuram, Malappuram.

The case was scheduled for the next hearing on October 25, 2023.

The Standing Counsel for Calicut University and the Principal of KMCT Law College were also directed to be present through video conference on that date.
