The Karnataka High Court has dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) that sought a directive from both the Union and State Governments to protect the life, property, and religious places of Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh.

The PIL was based on a news article from the Kannada newspaper Prajavani dated August 13, 2024, which highlighted reports of "communal unrest in Bangladesh." The petitioner sought the court’s intervention, requesting that the Indian government take action to safeguard the interests of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice N.V. Anjaria and Justice M.I. Arun, “Not only the petition is peculiarly vague, it is thoroughly misconceived and cannot be entertained in the public interest jurisdiction.”

The Court dismissed the petition, stating that the subject matter of the PIL was rooted solely in a news report, which could not serve as a legitimate basis for judicial intervention.
