The Gujarat High Court has sought the response of the state government over the issue of ragging menace occurring in Gujarat.

The bench of Chief Justice Aravind Kumar and Justice Ashutosh J. Shastri has sought responses from Principal Secretary, Higher and Technical Education, Government of Gujarat, Commissionerate of Higher Education, Gandhinagar, Commissioner of Technical Education, Gandhinagar and Commissioner of Health, Medical Services, Medical Education and Research.

A sitting Judge of the High Court had pointed out to the Chief Justice about the issue of ragging menace occurring in the State of Gujarat as highlighted by the ‘Ahmedabad Mirror’, a Local Bulletin.

This communication addressed to one of us (Mr.Aravind Kumar, CJ) by a Sitting Judge of this Court highlighting the issue of ragging menace occurring in the State of Gujarat, by enclosing the paper publication of ‘Ahmedabad Mirror’, Local Bulletin is taken on record as it was ordered to be registered as a public interest litigation.”, the Court said.

The Court observed that the concerned departments may be called for to state on affidavit about steps taken to contain the same.

The Court directed to list the matter on January 30, 2023 to enable the above authorities to apprise about steps taken to contain and prevent ragging incidents in schools and colleges.

“Mr.K.M.Antani, learned Assistant Government Pleader accepts and waives notice for said respondents. List this matter on 30.01.2023 to enable the above authorities to state on affidavit about steps taken to contain and prevent ragging incidents in schools and colleges.”, the Court observed.
