A Punjab & Haryana High Court Bench of Justice Pankaj Jain has granted interim anticipatory bail to an Ayurvedic doctor who has been accused of performing an unauthorized pregnancy termination.

In that context, the Court observed that "It has been further submitted that whole of the procedure has been documented and is in possession of the Investigating Agency. Thus, there cannot be any apprehension that the petitioner would tamper with the same."

Senior Advocate Bipan Ghai, among others, appeared for the petitioner.

In this case, the authorities had received confidential information about an illegal abortion being performed by a doctor. A team was formed to conduct the inspection, which conducted a raid.

During the raid, it was allegedly discovered that an abortion was sought due to a condition that could affect the development of the foetus.

The petitioner claimed that she was a qualified Ayurveda Dhanwantri Prasooti Tantra and Streeroga degree holder, and that she worked as a gynaecologist in a nursing home. She further contended that the whole procedure was documented and was in possession of the investigating agency.

The Court accepted the submission, granted relief to the petitioner, and listed the matter for further hearing on September 26.
