The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified the appointment of Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque, Judge, Kerala High Court to be the Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended his name with four others in a meeting held on December 18, 2025. Three other judges have already been confirmed through two separate notifications.

The notification released on the Ministry's website dated January 03, 2026, read, "In the exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Muhamed Mustaque Ayumantakath, Judge, Kerala High Court, to be Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office."

He was sworn in as Additional Judge of the High court of Kerala on January23, 2014, appointed as Permanent Judge of the High Court of Kerala with effect from March 10, 2016. He was appointed as Acting Chief Justice of High Court of Kerala with effect from July 05, 2024.
