Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Elevation Of Five High Court Judges As Chief Justices Of Various High Courts

The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on May 26, 2025 has resolved to recommend the elevation of five High Court judges as Chief Justices of various High Courts across the country.

The Collegium approved the following recommendations:

  1. Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva (PHC: Delhi) presently at Madhya Pradesh High Court has been recommended for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
  2. Justice Vibhu Bakhru presently at Delhi High Court is proposed to be the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.
  3. Justice Ashutosh Kumar presently at Patna High Court is recommended for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court
    .
  4. Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi (PHC: Gujarat) currently serving in the Patna High Court has been recommended for elevation as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
  5. Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan presently at the Himachal Pradesh High Court is recommended for appointment as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. This elevation is proposed against a vacancy likely to arise due to the anticipated transfer of the incumbent Chief Justice.
