Breaking: Centre Orders Six Changes To Movie Udaipur Files, Supreme Court Extends Stay On Release Till Thursday

Six changes have been ordered to the movie.
The Supreme Court today adjourned the pleas connected to the film 'Udaipur Files' after the Central Government informed that it has passed an order requiring six changes to the movie.
On the last occasion, the Court had adjourned the appeal filed by the producers of the movie challenging the order of the Delhi High Court that stayed the release of the movie until the Centre decided the challenge to the certification of the movie. The Court had also permitted the accused in the murder of Kanhaiya Lal, who had also filed a Writ Petition against the release of the movie, to appear before the Centre to raise his objections.
A Bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi ordered that the matter be posted on Thursday and that the interim order against release will continue till then.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta informed the Court, "State has passed an order".
Senior Advocate Menaka Guruswamy, appearing for the accused in the murder, said, "We are contesting the order".
Tushar Mehta further submitted, "Any step more than what the State has done will be infringing Article 19. I have gone through the order. This is my personal opinion".
Senior Advocate Gaurav Bhatia, appearing for the producers of the movie, submitted that the six changes have been suggested to the movie, which has been carried out. The Court told him that changes will have to be made unless the order is challenged by the Producers.
Gaurav Bhatia told the Court about the petitions before High Courts pertaining to the same film. Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for the Petitioner before the High Court, informed the Court that High Court has not passed any order in view of the Delhi High Court's Order.

Background
The Court on July 16, 2025, deferred hearing on a plea challenging the Delhi High Court’s interim stay on the release of the film, in view of a scheduled certification review before the Central Government that afternoon. The Bench directed that all parties be allowed to present their contentions before the Centre, stating, “We can wait for a day or two since the government is taking it up… raise all contentions there.”
Earlier, the producers had sought urgent listing of their plea, saying that the film's release was stayed by the High Court despite the Censor Board certification.
On July 10, the Delhi High Court stayed the release of 'Udaipur Files' till the Centre decides on pleas seeking a permanent ban on the film over its potential to "promote disharmony" in society.
