Supreme Court Issues Notice In Subramanian Swamy's New PIL Seeking Protection Of Ram Setu

Dr. Subramanian Swamy filed a Public Interest Litigation in May, 2025 seeking to declare Ram Setu as a monument of National Importance.
Today, the Supreme Court issued notice on a Public Interest Litigation, filed by Former Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Subramanian Swamy, seeking a timely decision on declaring Ram Setu as a monument of national importance.
The Bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta heard the matter and issued notice.
Senior Counsel appearing on behalf of Swamy informed the Court that he couldn't appear in person because he had undergone a triple bypass surgery.
Accordingly, the Bench issued notice and listed the matter after four weeks.
Background
On January 19, 2023, the Centre told the Apex Court that it was looking into the issue of declaring the Ram Setu a national heritage monument. The Apex Court had asked Dr. Swamy to make a representation to the government if he wished so.
In March 2023, the Supreme Court agreed to list for hearing the former PIL filed by Dr. Swamy.
The Bench also refused to tag the Petition with the PIL filed by former Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy seeking a direction to the Centre to declare the Ram Setu a national heritage monument.
Ram Setu, also known as Adam's Bridge, is a chain of limestone shoals between Pamban Island, off the south-eastern coast of Tamil Nadu, and Mannar Island, off the north-western coast of Sri Lanka.
