The Supreme Court today granted anticipatory bail to veteran actor Mohan Babu in connection with a case related to an alleged attack on a journalist.
The Court was hearing a Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed by Mohan Babu against the Telangana High Court’s Order denying him anticipatory bail. The specific allegation against him is that his estranged son barged into his house along with a television crew, during the course of which a scuffle arose and Mohan Babu threw a wireless mic at a journalist.
The Bench of Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah questioned Mohan Babu regarding the removal of CCTV footage and whether he had filed a complaint against his son.
The Court also inquired about the alleged assault on the journalist.
During the hearing, Mohan Babu’s Counsel submitted that his client would cooperate with the police investigation and that the journalist would be compensated. He also highlighted Mohan Babu’s achievements, noting that he is a Padma Shri awardee, runs a university, and has previously served as a Member of Parliament.
The counsel further contended that the attack was not intentional and that Mohan Babu had been facing personal family issues.
Following these submissions, the Court granted anticipatory bail to the actor while directing him to cooperate with the ongoing probe.
