A Public Interest Litigation by Advocate Akshay Malhotra challenging the nationwide rollout of 20% ethanol-blended Petrol.

Today, the Supreme Court dismissed the plea challenging the nationwide rollout of 20% ethanol-blended Petrol.

The Bench of Chief Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran heard the matter.

Senior Advocate Shadan Farasat, appearing for the Petitioner, submitted that at the moment, the consumers were not even aware whether they were consuming Ethonal-20 or not. He further highlighted the report of NITI Aayog and emphasised on the damage that might be caused to the vehicles due to the use of Ethonal-20.

"The largest number of vehicles on road today are not Ethanol-20 fit. So this is causing damage to their engines and lowers fuel efficiency...we do not want E20 to go out, we just want options", submitted the Senior Counsel.

Later, while opposing the PIL, ASG R. Venkataramani submitted that the petitioner was a name-lender and the Government had already considered all the issues mentioned.

Upon which, the CJI dismissed the Petition.
