
Centre Notifies Judicial Appointments For Madras & Bombay High Courts

The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified the appointment of four additional judges to the Madras High Court, elevating them to the position of permanent judges. These judges were recommended for the permanent posts by the Supreme Court Collegium in February 2025.
The judges who have been appointed as permanent judges of the Madras High Court are:
- Justice Ramasamy Sakthivel
- Justice P Dhanabal
- Justice Chinnasamy Kumarappan
- Justice Kandasamy Rajasekar
The notification dated March 04, 2025 read, "In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S/Sh.ri Justices (i) Ramasamy Sakthivel, (ii) P. Dhanabal, (iii) Chinnasamy Kumarappan and (iv) Kandasamy Rajasekar, Additional Judges of the Madras High Court, to be Judges of that High Court with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices."
In another notification the ministry has also notified the appointment of three additional judges to the Bombay High Court, elevating them to the position of permanent judges.
The judges appointed are:
- 1.Justice Shailesh Pramod Brahme,
- 2.Justice Firdosh Phiroze Pooniwalla,
- 3.Justice Jitendra Shantilal Jain.
The notification dated March 04, 2025 read, "In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S/Shri Justices (i) Shailesh Pramod Brahme, (ii) Firdosh Phiroze Pooniwalla and (iii) Jitendra Shantilal Jain, Additional Judges of the Bombay High Court, to be Judges of that High Court with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices."
In addition, the Ministry renewed the term of Justice Manjusha Ajay Deshpande, an additional judge at the Bombay High Court, for one more year.
The notification dated March 04, 2025 read, "In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Smt. Justice Manjusha Ajay Deshpande, Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court, to be an Additional Judge of that High Court for a fresh term of one year w.e.f. 12.08.2025."
