
Centre Notifies Appointment Of Nine Judges Across Five High Courts

The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified the appointment of several judges to the High Courts of Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Calcutta.
The notifications were released on the Ministry’s website as on August 08,2025. The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended these names in a meeting held on July 28, 2025.
Judicial Officer Vimal Kumar Yadav has been appointed as a Judge of the Delhi High Court. His appointment will take effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.
In the Chhattisgarh High Court, Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal, who was serving as an Additional Judge, has been elevated as a permanent Judge of the Court.
Similarly, Justice Gurusiddaiah Basavaraja, Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court, has been appointed as a Judge of that High Court.
In the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, four Additional Judges have been elevated to the position of Judges. These include:
- Justice Harinath Nunepally
- Justice Kiranmayee Mandava (also known as Kiranmayee Kanaparthy)
- Justice Sumathi Jagadam
- Justice Nyapathy Vijay
All four will assume their new roles upon taking charge of their respective offices.
In the Calcutta High Court, the President has made multiple appointments:
- Under Article 224(1), the following seven Additional Judges have been reappointed for a further period of one year, effective from August 31, 2025:
- Justice Biswaroop Chowdhury
- Justice Prasenjit Biswas
- Justice Uday Kumar
- Justice Ajay Kumar Gupta
- Justice Supratim Bhattacharya
- Justice Partha Sarathi Chatterjee
- Justice Md. Shabbar Rashidi
- Additionally, under Article 217(1), Justice Partha Sarathi Sen and Justice Apurba Sinha Ray, who were serving as Additional Judges, have now been appointed as permanent Judges of the Calcutta High Court.
