Centre Notifies Appointment Of Chief Justices Across Eight High Courts

The Ministry of Law and Justice, on September 05, 2026, has notified the appointments of 8 Chief Justices for various High Courts across the country.

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended four names earlier in August 2026 and had recommended the remaining four names later in August 2026. The appointments are as follows:

Shri Justice Valluri Kameswar Rao, Judge of the Delhi High Court, has been appointed Chief Justice of the Patna High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

Shri Justice Ravindra Vithalrao Ghuge, Judge of the Bombay High Court, has been appointed Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

Shri Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra, Judge of the Orissa High Court, has been appointed Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

Shri Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi, Judge of the Allahabad High Court, has been appointed Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

Shri Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, has been appointed Chief Justice of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

Shri Justice Alpesh Yeshvant Kogje, Judge of the Gujarat High Court, has been appointed Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

Shri Justice Sanjay Kumar Agrawal, Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court, has been appointed Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

Dr. Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati, Judge of the Rajasthan High Court, has been appointed Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.

In another notification, Shri Justice Manash Ranjan Pathak, Judge of the Orissa High Court, has been transferred as a Judge of the Gujarat High Court. The President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, has directed him to assume charge of his office in the Gujarat High Court.
