The Supreme Court today agreed to hear a plea of the Punjab government challenging a High Court order to investigate corruption allegations against people linked to the AAP-led government and submit a report within two months.

A bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana said it will hear the matter on Wednesday or Thursday after Senior Advocate Vikas Singh sought urgent listing of the matter.

Singh, while mentioning the matter for urgent listing, said that during election time, these kinds of cases are being trumped up.

CJI Kant observed that the Court will see how many matters are there and till then nothing will happen.

Singh persisted with the request and said that it's a clear case of federal structure being violated.

Earlier, the state government filed the Special Leave Petition (SLP) against the Punjab and Haryana High Court order at 1.42 am on Tuesday as per Apex Court website.

On Monday, the High Court had passed the order on a petition filed by Advocate Nikhil Saraf.

The allegations include cash for transfers and cash for getting favourable policies.

The petitioner submitted that no action has been taken yet, even after the Enforcement Directorate sent communications to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.

It was contended that the allegations warranted an independent investigation as it raised serious questions about the state government's functioning.

The High Court has also directed the Punjab Police and Punjab government that all documents pertaining to the case be handed over to the CBI.
