The Delhi Police has initiated action under Section 175 IPC against Twitter co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey and Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari. Delhi Police has filed a Kalandara under Section 175 before a Delhi Court against the duo, in relation to an FIR registered by Delhi Police against AltNews Co-Founder Mohammed Zubair.

The FIR had been registered against Mohammed Zubair in September last year, under Sections 67 and 67A of the IT Act for tweeting a photo of the minor daughter of a man with whom Zubair had a spat on Twitter, without blurring the child's face.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) had taken cognizance of a complaint filed before it against Zubair for his tweet of 8th August 2020, and had initiated an enquiry. FIRs were registered by Delhi Police as well as Raipur Police against Zubair, on the basis of complaints by the NCPCR.

Zuabir had filed a Writ Petition before the Delhi High Court seeking to quash the FIR filed by the Delhi Police. The Chairperson of the NCPCR has been arrayed as a Respondent in the Writ Petition and a cost of Rs.50 Lakhs has been sought from the Respondents by Zubair, for alleged harassment and defamation.

The NCPCR has now filed an additional affidavit in the Writ Petition seeking impleadment of Twitter as a Respondent in the Writ Petition.

The NCPCR has pointed out in the said affidavit that Twitter has not removed the post by Zubair and has sought a direction from the High Court to Twitter to remove the post.

The Writ Petition is listed before the Delhi High Court today.
