The Delhi High Court has issued summons to commentator Abhijit Iyer Mitra, web portals including Sunday Guardian, The Pamphlet, Jaipur Dialogues, and Lawbeat, as well as internet intermediaries Google LLC and X Corp (formerly Twitter), in a civil suit filed by Cockroach Janta Party spokesperson Saurav Das alleging breach of privacy.

The internet intermediaries Google LLC and X Corp were also arrayed as Defendants in the said matter. It was alleged that the unauthorised disclosure of the Plaintiff's residential address and personal details across various social media platforms.

X has informed the Court that the posts have been removed as per their policy.

The Bench of Justice Sachin Datta ordered, "Issue Summons. Defendants accept summons...In the injunction application... Learned counsel accepts notice on behalf of the defendants. In view of the urgency emphasized by learned Senior Counsel for the plaintiff, let reply be filed within 10 days."


Senior Advocate Akhil Sibal appeared for the Plaintiff, and Advocate Abhinav Chandrachud appeared for one of the Defendants

Das also filed an application seeking an ex parte interim stay in the matter.

Sibal argued that Defendant No. 1 entered the premises of Das's house and made a video of his residence.

Sibal argued, "These are posts which specifically identify the address, and these have been taken down by Twitter as per their own policy...so this should not be restored."

Justice Datta ordered, "As far as X is Defendant No. 6... As far as Defendant No. 6 is concerned, these links are no longer active...Counsel for Defendant No. 6, I am to submit that the links referred to in Schedule A, namely so-and-so, are no longer accessible."

The Defendant No. 6, X (Twitter), submitted that these links are no longer available as they have been removed. 

The Plaintiff argued, "The law that has evolved and now appears to be settled, is to the effect... and there are also, my Lords, Press Council of India norms on this, where journalists, which have been followed, and applied by this very Court Division Bench, saying public figure or no public figure, matters of where the person resides, his personal finances, his personal, my Lords, things like parentage, these are not, subject matter...All of these are identified in judgments and in Press Council norms."

The Court also granted liberty to the Plaintiff to file the amended memo of parties regarding the name of Sunday Guardian. The Court also allowed the Plaintiff to provide the videos by way of pen drive.

Accordingly, the matter is now listed after two weeks i.e. September 14, 2026.
