‘Misleading & Unauthorized Information’: SCAORA Condemns Forbes India List Of Top 25 Advocates On Record

The Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association has condemned the decision of Forbes India to publish the list of Top 25 Advocates On Record.

The Association has termed the document titled “Forbes Power List” Top 25 Advocates on Record as misleading and unauthorized information.

“The Executive Committee of SCAORA has received a complaint regarding a document titled as “Forbes Power List” Top 25 Advocate on Record. After having deliberated upon it, SCAORA unanimously resolves that SCAORA condemn such misleading and unauthorized information being spread by an organization, as the same amounts to clear case of misrepresentation and undermines the interests of Advocates on Record of the Hon’ble Supreme Court.”, the resolution by the Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association read.

The Association has requested Judges to take into consideration their concern in the larger interest of legal professionals.

The ‘Legal Powerlist 2022’ involves Seven categories including in-house lawyers, individual lawyers, managing partners, law firms, general counsel, AOR, Law Firm Management Professionals.

According to the 'Forbes India Legal Power List' website, a fee is required to nominate an individual or a firm. The early bird nomination fee for the category of Advocate on Record is Rs 20000 whereas the 'after early bird' fee is Rs 30000.

The website states that a Jury will first compile a preliminary shortlist of the most eligible candidates from the entire gamut of nominations and then the Jury will prepare a final list of candidates in each category and practice area of the Powerlist.

It further states that there will be an independent judging panel/jury of at least 25-30 senior and expert legal industry leaders to review the submission materials and the judging panel/jury members will be selected on the basis of their expertise and knowledge.
