As Centre Does Not Notify Transfer Of Chief Justice Muralidhar To Madras HC, Collegium Supersedes Its Earlier Recommendation

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of Justice Jaswant Singh, Judge of Orissa High Court as Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.

“The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on 25 January 2023, on reconsideration and in supersession of its earlier recommendation dated 28 September 2022, has recommended elevation of Shri Justice Jaswant Singh, Judge, Orissa High Court [PHC: P&H] as Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court.”, the Statement released by the Supreme Court Collegium read.

On September 28, 2022, the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the appointment of Justice Jaswant Singh as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court and the Chief Justice S. Muralidhar of Orissa High Court was recommended for transfer to the Madras High Court. However, the Centre did not act on the recommendation to transfer Chief Justice Muralidhar to Madras High Court.

Justice Jaswant Singh was elevated as Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court on December 5, 2007. Thereafter Justice Jaswant Singh was transferred and took oath as a Judge in the Orissa High Court on October 8, 2021.
