A Special Bench of the Supreme Court would hear the plea of SCBA (Supreme Court Bar Association) relating to the allotment of land for lawyers chambers on March 17.

The Special Bench will comprise CJI DY Chandrachud, Justice SK Kaul, and Justice PS Narasimha. The composition of the Special Bench has been made available under the causelist published by the Supreme Court on its official website.

On March 2, a heated exchange of words was witnessed in the Supreme Court between Justice Chandrachud and Vikas Singh over the allotment of land for lawyers' chambers with the CJI directing the senior lawyer not to raise his voice and leave the court.

During the mentioning of cases, the SCBA president told a bench of CJI, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice JB Pardiwala that he was struggling to get the matter listed for the last six months.

"You are asking for a land allotted to the SC to be given to the Bar. I have announced my decision. It will be taken on 17th and it will not be first on board," said CJI DY Chandrachud.

Later, as the mentioning of the cases ended, Senior Advocates Kapil Sibal and Neeraj Kishan Kaul, who were present in the court for Shiv Sena case, apologised to the bench on behalf of the bar.

In this context, the SCBA had issued a circular in which it was stated that a special GBM would be conducted on March 16 to consider resolutions seeking an explanation from Senior Advocates Kapil Sibal and Neeraj Kishan Kaul for apologizing to the apex court.

The explanatory note said, "The members of the Bar are extremely perturbed by what happened that day and have asked for a general body meeting signed by 184 members for considering resolution and second resolution signed by 235 members regarding the apology tendered by senior members of the bar without knowing the issue and without consulting anyone in the EC of the SCBA."
