Centre Notifies Transfer Of Meghalaya CJ To Kerala High Court; Appoints New Chief Justices For Two High Courts
The Ministry of Law and Justice has notified two judicial appointments and one transfer after the recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium in the meeting held on the December 18, 2025.
Justice Soumen Sen, who is presently serving as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, has been transferred to the Kerala High Court, where he will assume office as Chief Justice after the retirement of incumbent Chief Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar on January 9.
The notification dated January 01, 2026 read, "In exercise of the power conferred by clause (!) of Article 222 of the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Shri Justice Soumen Sen, Chief Justice, Meghalaya High Court to be the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court and to direct him to assume charge as the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court, consequent upon the retirement of Shri Nitin Madhukar Jamdar, Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court on 9th January, 2026."
Following Justice Sen’s transfer, Bombay High Court Justice Revati Mohite Dere has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.
The notification released on the Ministry’s website read, “In the exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Smt. Justice Revati Prashant Mohite Dere, Judge of the Bombay High Court, to be Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office consequent upon transfer of incumbent Chief Justice.”
In another appointment cleared by the Centre, Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo of the Orissa High Court has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.
The notification dated January 01, 2026 read, “In the exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shree Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo, Judge of the Orissa High Court as Chief Justice of the Patna High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”
