In a press release of 5th May, the Secretary General of the Supreme Court has termed as “wholly incorrect” an article written by Sushant Singh and published in The Indian Express. The report relied on ‘sources’ to say that “Justice Chandrachud, accompanied by Justice Rohintan Nariman, met the inquiry panel comprising Justices S A Bobde, Indu Malhotra and Indira Banerjee on Friday evening” to request the panel “to not proceed with the inquiry ‘ex parte’”.

Referring to a meeting that did not happen, the author wrote that the development “reflects the sense of disquiet in the higher judiciary and could have far-reaching consequences. The Secretary General of the SC has stated in the press release that the In-house Committee deliberates on its own, without any input from any other Hon’ble Judge of the court.

The Committee is currently inquiring into the allegations of sexual harassment raised by an ex-employee of Supreme Court against the Chief Justice of India.
