It has been reported that Income Tax Commissioner S. K. Srivastava has lodged a complaint before the CBI and Enforcement Directorate, urging them to probe into allegations of fraud of more than Rs. 300 Corers against Ziqitza Healthcare Ltd., a company that was promoted by Karti Chidambaram, son of former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram.
The Odisha Ambulance Services Employees Union has filed a detailed complaint before the Government of Odisha alleging that Ziqitza Healthcare has defrauded the state of Rs. 300 Crore over the last five years. The company was given the contract for management of Emergency Medical Ambulance (108) and other such emergency services under the Family Welfare Department of Government of Odisha. As per the Employees Union, the company has been committing fraud by exaggerating and fabricating bills with the help of certain officials. It is based on this complaint that the Income Tax Commissioner sought probe since the company is already under probe for similar allegations in the state of Rajasthan.
In the Rajasthan Ambulance Scam involving the same company, there were similar allegations of defrauding the state through ‘excess bills’. In the Rajasthan Ambulance Scam, the Enforcement Directorate had booked certain political leaders including Karthi Chidambaram on money laundering charges. Karthi Chidambaram had then claimed that he was a Director of the Company only till December, 2012. In April, 2017 the Enforcement Directorate had attached movable and immovable properties of Ziqitza Healthcare Ltd. and its directors worth Rs.11,57,70,944 under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.
