A warrant has been issued by the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate, Mazgaon, Mumbai against Sitaram Yechuri, the General Secretary of CPI(M) for his remark that RSS ideology and its men are behind the murder of activist Gauri Lankesh. Advocate Dhrutiman Joshi, a member of the RSS had filed a private complaint in 2017 against Congress President Rahul Gandhi and CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechuri, both of whom had blamed the RSS for the death of Gauri Lankesh. On 18th of February, the Court had issued Summons to both Rahul Gandhi and Sitaram Yechuri.
Rahul Gandhi appeared through a lawyer on 22nd of April and claimed that he did not receive the summons. Advocate Dhrutiman Joshi produced postal receipt evidencing service of summons upon Rahul Gandhi. However, Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer claimed that the summons has not been served and sought an inquiry against Mumbai’s Dadar post office. The application seeking inquiry was not decided by the Court, which granted an exemption to Rahul Gandhi from personal appearance till 30th April. However, despite receipt of summons Sitaram Yechuri did not appear before the Court. The Court, therefore, issued a warrant against him returnable on the 30th of April.
