Supreme Court today issued notice to Congress President Rahul Gandhi in the contempt case filed against him by BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi. Supreme Court refused to accept the plea of Rahul Gandhi to close the contempt case in the light of the reply filed by him.
Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi submitted that the regret expressed by Mr. Gandhi in his reply is mere lip service and that he has not apologized for the admittedly false attribution to the Supreme Court. The bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi has posted the contempt case for hearing along with the review petition in the Rafael case to 30th of this month. The Chief Justice expressed surprise at the wrong attribution to it asking whether the Court would ever use the term “Chowkidar” in its order.
Rahul Gandhi will have to personally appear before the Supreme Court on the next date, unless his personal appearance has been dispensed with by the Court.
